Indoleamine 2,3-Dioxygenase 1 (IDO1, EC 1.13.11.52) is a cytoplasmic hemoprotein that oxidizes tryptophan yielding N-formylkynurenin e (NFK). In mammals, this reaction is the first and rate limiting step in the kynurenine catabolic pathway.
